Taking care of your smile is part of taking care of yourself.

There’s an old saying that happiness begins by facing life with a smile—and it has more truth to it than you might think! Not only does smiling actively improve your mood, but a healthy smile helps your overall health as well. Plus, knowing your smile is healthy and loving the way it looks can work wonders for your self-confidence! When you take care of your smile, you’re also taking care of yourself. At our Duvall family dental office, we offer a wide range of treatments that can help you do just that. To help you determine which treatment might be right for you, we’ve outlined our 5 most popular dental procedures below.

1. Tooth Whitening

Our teeth start out white, but the foods and drinks we consume, habits like smoking, and even just getting older can all cause your teeth to develop stains over time. Thankfully, you’re not stuck with these stains forever! Professional tooth whitening treatments are a quick, easy way to lift years of stains from your teeth, lightening them by multiple shades in just an hour at our office. You can discuss these dental procedures with Dr. Tyler before you start, choosing what shade you’d like your teeth to become. Dr. Tyler will then tailor your treatment taking your preferences into account, ensuring that you’ll love your results!

Professional treatments provide more dramatic, customized, and predictable results than over-the-counter whitening strips. How long these results last is partially up to you, however, because the treatment can’t prevent new stains from forming on your teeth. If you adjust a few habits, stick to a great oral hygiene routine with whitening toothpaste, and perform a touch-up treatment every year or so, your whitening job can last several years!

2. Crowns

Dental crowns are tooth-shaped pieces of porcelain that fit over your natural tooth. They’re one of the most common dental procedures out there, partially because of their versatility. They’re used in both restorative and cosmetic dentistry because they’re capable of restoring a tooth’s health, function, and appearance. They’re often used to restore and protect teeth that have suffered extensive damage from decay or an injury such as breaking, cracking, or severe wearing from clenching and grinding teeth. In some cases, they can also be used to restore the appearance of teeth that are misshapen or crooked.

Dental crowns are highly customizable, which means that you can work with Dr. Tyler to choose the size, shape, and shade of your crown. Modern materials like e.max and zirconia crowns are even slightly translucent to mimic tooth enamel, so they achieve a realistic appearance that even other porcelain crowns can’t match. They’re also more durable than ever. Together, these factors allow your crown to look just like a natural tooth, blending into your natural smile seamlessly while being strong enough to last you decades when you take great care of them. Thankfully, this is incredibly easy! All you need to do is practice great oral hygiene, which means that you should brush your teeth for two minutes twice a day, floss at least once a day, and use mouthwash by following the directions on the bottle.

3. Veneers

Veneers are thin sheets of porcelain that are permanently secured onto the front of your natural teeth to change their appearance. They’re well-known for their use in cosmetic dentistry, but they can also help repair and protect minor issues with your oral health! Veneers can cover or correct issues with your teeth, such as permanent stains, minor cracks and chips, and gaps between your teeth, in addition to changing their size, shape, and shade. They can also help relieve tooth sensitivity from enamel erosion by covering the sensitive surface of your tooth, acting as a shield that protects it from painful stimuli as well as decay. Veneers are incredibly versatile in their uses and application, so they can fit a wide range of treatment needs and goals! You can get a single veneer to restore one tooth, a full set to completely transform your smile, or anything in between.

Just like crowns, veneers are made just for you, so you’ll work with Dr. Tyler to choose the appearance of each veneer. This customizability and the realistic appearance of the porcelain they’re made from allows the veneers to look completely natural, so no one will know you even have them. Additionally, while veneers are thin, they’re incredibly durable and stain-resistant, so they can last around 15 years or more if you take care of them using great oral hygiene. Doing this will extend the life of your veneers and keep your teeth and gums healthier, so it’s a win-win!

4. Smile Test Drive

When you’re creating a smile by design or trying to make a decision about restorative or cosmetic dentistry treatments, it can be difficult to imagine exactly what your new smile will look like on you. For many patients, a Smile Test Drive can be a game-changer! This simple, easy procedure helps you decide by allowing you to see what your new smile will look like when it’s complete. To accomplish this, Dr. Tyler will apply an easily removable, tooth-colored composite resin to your teeth, molding it to fit the appearance of the proposed changes to your smile. Your facial features and your smile work together and complement each other, so this is a great way to see how your new smile will change your overall appearance.

Plus, the appointment is a great chance for you to ask Dr. Tyler any questions you might have—you might even think of new questions to ask as a result of your Smile Test Drive. This allows you to make adjustments to the appearance of your final smile before you receive your official treatment and ensures that you’ll genuinely love your final results. But you don’t have to decide right away! With a Smile Test Drive, you leave our office with the resin in place, giving you time to get used to the way it looks and gather others’ opinions. Once you’ve had a little time to get used to it and reached a decision, it’s a simple matter of peeling the resin off right at home later on in the day.

5. Video Consult

Admittedly, this one isn’t technically a procedure, but our video consultations are so incredibly popular, especially in light of COVID, that we simply had to mention them! Video consults make it easier and more convenient than ever to get your questions answered by Dr. Tyler. To start your video consultation, you simply upload an up-close picture of your smile and share your concerns or questions about it as well as your overall treatment goals. Dr. Tyler will then record and send you a video response containing answers to all of your questions and advice about how you can transform or better care for your smile. He can also provide estimates for the cost of certain dental procedures so that you know what’s in your budget before you visit our office. Once you’ve gotten these answers and have had time to think about them, you can schedule an on-site visit to our comfortable, welcoming Duvall family dentistry office. Dr. Tyler can examine your teeth and give you more specific advice about what treatment might be right for you.
