Same day implants restore your smile’s function and appearance all in one visit.

Dental implants do more than restore the appearance of your smile. They can also make it easier to chew, speak, and enjoy everyday life.

If you have one or more missing teeth or severely damaged teeth that require extraction, then your dentist may recommend an implant restoration to repair the form and function of your mouth. While these treatments can benefit your oral health, some patients may qualify for an expedited procedure that takes only one day to complete!

Same day dental implants offer the ultimate in ease, convenience, and relief. Today, we’re sharing all about how this process works and what you can expect.

Why dental implants?

Dental implants are restorative treatments designed to fit into spaces in your mouth where missing teeth once were. Not only do they make your smile appear more uniform and healthy, but they can also preserve your natural jawbone structure.

With traditional dental implants, your dentist will begin by surgically placing one or more titanium posts into your jawbone. These posts are designed to mimic the function of your natural tooth root. Once they’ve completely fused with your jaw, they can serve as a solid foundation for a prosthetic tooth.

If you’re only missing one tooth, then your dentist can place a zirconia dental crown on your implant. If you’re missing multiple teeth, then an implant-supported bridge can fully restore your tooth structure without damaging any neighboring teeth.

In terms of the timeline, it can take a few weeks to a few months for the titanium post to fully fuse with your jawbone. In addition, you’ll need to add on a few more months if an extraction preceded this treatment. Once Dr. Tyler extracts a damaged tooth, it can take a few months for the site to heal and become strong enough for an implantation.

This implant fusion process is called osseointegration. Only when this bonding is complete can Dr. Tyler move on to the next step, which includes adding the prosthetic tooth to your implant via an abutment.

Candidates for Same Day Implants

What if you could skip right to the front of the line and complete the dental implant process in one day? With same day implants, or immediate load implants, you can. Patients who qualify for this procedure include those who:

  • Have one or more missing teeth.
  • Are non-smokers or are able and willing to quit before the treatment.
  • Want to improve the cosmetic appearance of their smile.
  • Have a healthy jawbone structure.
  • Have healthy tissue in their mouth.
  • Practice healthy oral health habits.
  • Do not grind their teeth excessively.

If you are interested in same day dental implants, then Dr. Tyler can assess your current oral health condition to determine if this treatment is right for you.

Procedure and Timeline

Despite the name, most same day dental implants actually take three visits in total.

First, you’ll visit Dr. Tyler for a thorough evaluation to make sure you’re a good candidate for this procedure.

At your second visit, the actual implantation is completed.  Most implantations can be completed in a few hours, depending on your total number of missing teeth. In many ways, the process is the same as with traditional implants. However, instead of leaving our office with just the implanted titanium post, you’ll leave with a beautiful, natural-looking smile. Then, finally, you’ll come back for a follow-up appointment.

How does it work?

After Dr. Tyler implants the post into your jawbone, he will place a temporary replacement tooth on top of it. This is a technique known as immediate dentoalveolar restoration. When your jaw and gums have had time to heal, you’ll come back for the permanent prosthetic crown or dental bridge.

Traditional Implants vs Same Day Implants

Same day implants are obviously less time-consuming and labor-intensive than their traditional counterparts. Instead of waiting months for your smile to look complete, you can enjoy a more uniform smile in just a few hours.

However, though these two procedures are different, they do share many similarities. With both treatments, the titanium post must fully osseointegrate into your jawbone. In addition, the final tooth placed is always a permanent, prosthetic one.

Costs For Each Treatment

There is no universal cost for a same day dental implant. Rather, your final expenses will depend on the extent of your treatment and your specific oral health condition. Remember: These are smiles by design, which means they’re fully customized to your individual needs.

If you have multiple missing teeth, then speak to your dentist about full-mouth implants, such as implant-supported dentures or All-on-4 dental implants. These treatments are designed to be more comprehensive in nature and can help solve a range of dental issues with one treatment. On a cost-per-tooth basis, they will always be the more cost-effective option over a series of single implants.

If you have dental insurance, be sure to request a benefits evaluation to understand what your policy will cover on the cost of full mouth dental implants. You can also ask us about our membership program, loyalty plan, and financing options that can make your dental care as affordable as possible.
